If anyone is going to Blue Hills at Stone Barns in the next few days, you just might eat an egg that was collected by Jack. We drove up to Stone Barns this past Saturday to take part in the Saturday Family Activity, which is egg collecting. After the eggs are collected they are either sold in the store or bought by the restaurant to be used in their meals.

The farmer takes you to the chicken coop and tells the kids about the chickens and the eggs and the farm Then, they bring you into the coop and let you collect all the eggs. After the eggs were collected, they took us to see the pigs and the sheep.

Jack was a little unsure of the chickens because there were so many of them and they peck at your feet and legs the whole time. But he was having fun holding the basket and seeing the chickens When we went to see the pigs he was just yelling, “Oink oink!” at them. The farmer threw one of the cracked eggs into the pig sty as a treat. Jack very politely asked if he could have a turn. Unfortunately they don’t let the kids throw the eggs. I bet that could get messy.

Next time we are going to try our hands at vegetable picking in the Greenhouse. That is their Sunday activity. We will definitely be spending more time at Stone Barns.
